The EVO Boot is an innovative new hoof boot from Europe, that has been designed by people that have been using hoof boots since their inception! The result is a lightweight, easy to fit, easy to remove boot with replaceable parts that can be used on a variety of hooves and used over a variety of terrain. All parts of the EVO boot are able to be replaced or altered for the perfect fit in next to no time, with just the use of the included allen wrench.
The boot is sold in pairs, and each boot comes compete with 3 additional elestostops, an allen wrench and smartlock spare parts and an additional elastostop indirect fastening so you not only get the boot but a range of spares too should you need them. The EVO boot 1.0 is designed to perform- it has an easy breakover and is ultra flexible in all directions (unlike other solid sole boots) as well as being extrememly lightweight.
The EVO boot is suitable for long and short rides, and offers complete bulb protection feauring a fully breathable back shield which is gentle on the skin. EVOhorse have produced a boot that has been develped for barefoot horses, and is an innovative and functional design- it can even be heat fitted if needed on horses with difficult or unusual hoof shapes (in the vast majority of cases this is not necessary but nice to know in case you need it!).
The EVO boot boasts a lateral cartilage pressure free system, and allows the natural hoof expansion and distortion. This hoof boot is made to fit like a second skin, making it extremely comfortable for the horse, which coupled with very easy to use fixings it is also very easy to use for the rider.
The EVO boot is designed to be adjustable and will fit a wide variety of horses, as the bulb shield and elastostops can be fixed in different postiions- it will even accommodate uneven heel bulbs as the bulb shield can be set on asymetricly. The only hoof it may not work with, is a hoof with very high heels. Like all hoof boots, the EVO boot is designed to be used on a barefoot horse being trimmed regularly, as opposed to pasture trimmed hooves or hooves with flare that are trimmed infrequently. If in doubt, please fill in our hoof boot enquiry form and we can advise on the suitability of any hoof boots for your horse (located in the 'advice' section of the Hoof Boot department menu).
Important note: EVO horse advise once you have established the best placement of the screws, to use Loctite 243 (not included) on the thread to keep them firmly in place for the long term. This glue is not applied in the factory in order to facilite you chanign the screws easily until you settle on the best positioning. Lost screws can be purchased separately, along with other spares if required.
EVO boots weigh approximaltey 300g (size 2) which makes it one of the lightest boots on the market. This diminished weight helps to reduce the strain and stress on the horses legs. These EVOhorse hoof boots will last at least as well as any other hoof boot- it is very dependent on the horses action, the terrain you ride on and a number of other factors but on average for weekend pleasure riding the manufacturer says they will usuaully last around 1,200km or 18 months so long as the horse has a normal action (and does not screw the hoof, scuff/ drag the toe etc for example the same as with all other boots).
Maintenence of the EVO hoof boot is simple as there are no absorbent parts, so a quick rinse with water after use is normally all that is needed, To reduce the risk of bacterial build up, a solution of 50% apple cider vinegar sprayed into the boots regularly is also good. EVO boots are designed for ridden work, and utilise a transpiration system in its bilb shield so they are ideal for using over longer periods of time such as endurance riding. They are not designed to be used without a rider present, and should not be left on the boots unattended or used for turnout for example (like many other hoof boots).
As with all boots, it is advisable to start off using the EVO boots for short periods (30 minutes) and build up, the same as you would break in your own shoes just as a precaution. In many cases this is not needed but it is a sensible thing to do to prevent any potential initial rubbing and monitor the fit until you are happy with it. The EVO hoof boots will stretch and adapt to your horses hooves over time, so they may be just a little tighter to fit the first few times, but once worn in they are supremely easy to slip on and off.
