20" strips of legal hat padding can be safely used to alter the fit of your riding hat without effecting the safety standard. 20" strips of legal hat padding can be safely used to alter the fit of your riding hat without effecting the safety standard. To prevent forward/backward movement or your riding hat coming down over your eyes, place 1 or 2 short strips under the rim of padding at the back of the hat to grip the skull. Try it loose under the padding before sticking it down permanently as once in it is difficult to remove without damaging the hat! Always use the riding hat padding to pad the back before the front or you may find it gives you a headache. If your head is very long and narrow, you can put a strip either side of your head, but you will probably only need 1 short strip each side to make a big difference.
